Impacts of government shutdown – We are on the 15th day of the federal government shutdown. The last time a shutdown occurred was in 1995 and it lasted 21 days. Under the United States Constitution, Congress has a duty to pass spending bills to fund the federal government. When there is an impasse on the budget and no spending bills are passed, the federal government comes to a grinding halt or a shutdown. It is not a complete shutdown but the impacts are significant. We will take a look at how the federal government shutdown impacted the different agencies for the immigrant community.
