What is next?
This is a question that I have pondered for the past few weeks after the President’s State of the Union address on January 28, 2014. In his speech to the nation, President Obama did mention the need for immigration reform (about 121 words), and the Republican response delivered by Representative Cathy Rogers from the state of Washington agreed with the need for immigration reform. Two days later, the Republican Party in the House of Representative released a one page outline for the standard of immigration reform for which it should take place in the House of Representative. The House Republican outright rejected to go into committee with the Senate Bill SB 744 but would be receptive to immigration reform with its own standard. I was hopeful that we might possibly have a small opening for immigration legislation to pass. However, the hope quickly vanished on February 6, 2014 when House Speaker John Boehner told reporters that there is a distrust at the White House administration for the administering and enforcement of immigration law, and it would not be possible for immigration reform to take place.

Immigration Law in 2014
In 2013, we started the year with the hope and anticipation of the passage of a comprehensive immigration reform and ended the year without none. Now it is 2014, and in a year of election, there is basically no hope or anticipation of passage of a comprehensive reform. There is at least a realization in the Democratic Party that comprehensive immigration reform would not pass, but a reasonable approach toward immigration reform is a piece-meal legislation. Although the House of Representative has not brought any immigration bill to the floor for a vote or to go to conference with Senate Bill 744, we have seen individual states beginning to raise their own immigration reform and policies.

Luật Di Trú Trong Năm 2014
Chúng ta bắt đầu năm 2013 với hy vọng và mong đợi sự thông qua của cải cách di trú toàn diện nhưng đã kết thúc năm không có biến chuyển. Hiện tại năm 2014 là năm bầu cử, nên hầu như không có hy vọng hay dự đoán nào về cải cách di trú. Có một sự thống nhất trong Đảng Dân Chủ là cải cách di trú toàn diện sẽ không được thông qua, nhưng cách tiếp cận hợp lý đối với cải cách di trú là theo từng khúc đoạn luật nhỏ. Mặc dù Hạ Viện chưa đưa ra dự luật di trú để bỏ phiếu hoặc đi đến hội nghị với SB 744, chúng ta đã thấy một số tiểu bang bắt đầu việc thay đổi chính sách và cải cách di trú.

2013 Year-End Review
Warm greeting from our office to you and your family. It is amazing that we are approaching the Christmas Holiday and the end of the 2013. Let take a look at what had happened in 2013.
We started off the year with great enthusiasm that immigration reform would pass. The time was ripe in 2013 for immigration reform to pass. Right after the election in November 2012, a group of bi-partisan senators began discussing and formulating the reform of our immigration system.
