Divorce and Immigration – they are connected.
Family Law and Immigration Law are two separate areas of law that are regularly connected. For many immigrants, the potential for immigration problems comes when there are family law problems, such as divorce.
It is estimated that around 25 percent of all green cards (legal permanent residency) are between immigrants married to American citizens. And it has been declared that the number of green cards based on marriage to an American citizen is growing.

Hiện tại chúng ta đang trong ngày thứ 15 chính phủ ngưng hoạt động. Lần ngưng hoạt động gần đây nhất là vào năm 1995, kéo dài 21 ngày. Theo Hiến Pháp Hoa Kỳ, Quốc Hội có nhiệm vụ thông qua luật chi tiêu cho chính phủ liên bang. Khi có sự bế tắc về ngân sách và luật chi tiêu không được thông qua, chính phủ liên bang sẽ bị ngưng trệ và đóng cửa. Đây không phải là sự ngưng hoạt động hoàn toàn nhưng nó gây nhiều ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng. Chúng ta sẽ xem xét tác động của việc chính phủ đóng cửa trên các cơ quan di trú khác nhau.

Impacts of government shutdown
We are on the 15th day of the federal government shutdown. The last time a shutdown occurred was in 1995 and it lasted 21 days. Under the United States Constitution, Congress has a duty to pass spending bills to fund the federal government. When there is an impasse on the budget and no spending bills are passed, the federal government comes to a grinding halt or a shutdown. It is not a complete shutdown but the impacts are significant. We will take a look at how the federal government shutdown impacted the different agencies for the immigrant community.

Electronic Filing of DS-260 with the National Visa Center
Drastic changes have taken place over the years for immigrant visa processing with the Department of State. I still remember the time when immigrant visa processing was processed with the U.S. Orderly Departure Program (ODP) out of Bangkok, Thailand. At that time, the immigrant visa processing unit was stationed in Bangkok, Thailand, and the adjudicating officers would travel to Saigon, Vietnam to conduct the interviews. After the interviews, it would take at least 3-6 months for the visas to be issued from Bangkok and sent to Saigon. When the relationship between Vietnam and the United States normalized in 1995, the Department of State began to set up and start opening the U.S. Consulate in Saigon. The immigrant visa processing that was once handled by the U.S. Orderly Departure Program slowly transferred to the U.S. Consulate in Saigon. In 2005, all immigrant visa processing was completely handled by the U.S. Consulate in Saigon, and it was the end of the U.S. Orderly Departure Program.
